Brief MISHtory
For many, many years, every December, I have chronicled my favourite songs of the year in Countdown form. It began officially in 1997 (age: 14) when I would write my 'Song of The Week' on my whiteboard in my room, along with my 'Celebrity Husband' and I would also write down the 'Song of the Week' in my diary and at the end of the year I tallied all the songs up and announced my favourite song to the world! (It was 'I Think I Love You - Less Than Jake' fyi).
I got more serious about my Countdown in 1999 when I made the jump from 'Song of The Year' to Mish's Top 100.
I followed a similar format, but would write down 5 songs each week and had a strict point system. As such, the official countdown would often not truly represent my opinion of the song in question and ended up in some very embarrassing and questionable choices falling rather high on the list (i.e. 'Kiss Kiss by Holly Valance' at no. 22 in 2002)
Before I was such an avid internet user, I had all of the Countdowns immortalised on a box-set of CD's. This unfortunately proved flawed as someone I worked with in 2004 stole all the CD's (that's how good my Countdown is). So sadly, I've lost the lists from 1999 - 2005. I can recall the top songs and certain songs from the list, but the official rankings are forever lost.
2006 saw me introduce new official categories, expanding from just songs. Album of the year, band of the year, gig of the year, TV, Film, the return of Celebrity husband and other new categories arrived and have mostly stayed.
By 2007 the point system was abolished. The songs in the list were based on my actual opinion of the song at the end of the year.
Come 2013 and the Countdown evolved even more, for the first time not focusing primarily on the music but a joint emphasis on Film, Tv, Music, Books & Celebrities. For the first time the Countdown wasn't 100 songs. (budget cuts or something!)
I still have a great affection towards the Countdown. It's been my hobby and at times my obsession. I've had friends share the experience, love the experience, hate the experience.
So sit back and enjoy my special little friend - The Official Misha Fitt Top 100
